The calculator determines how many gallons are needed for a given trip by dividing distance (miles) by vehicle efficiency (MPG). It then multiplies that gallon amount by the price per gallon for each fuel grade, producing total costs for Regular, Mid‑Grade and Premium options. The cheapest and most expensive totals are found with simple min/max comparisons, and savings figures are the differences between the premium cost and each of the other two. All results are rounded to three decimal places.

How to use it

Enter your car’s mileage (MPG), how far you’ll drive in miles, and the current price per gallon for Regular, Mid‑Grade, and Premium fuels. Step 1: Gallons used = Trip Distance ÷ Mileage = 100 miles ÷ 25 MPG = 4.0 gallons. Step 2: Regular cost = 4.0 gal × $2.50/gal = $10.000. Step 3: Mid‑Grade cost = 4.0 gal × $2.70/gal = $10.800. Step 4: Premium cost = 4.0 gal × $2.95/gal = $11.800. Step 5: Cheapest option = $10.000 (Regular), most expensive = $11.800 (Premium). Step 6: Savings premium vs regular = $11.800 − $10.000 = $1.800. Step 7: Savings premium vs mid‑grade = $11.800 − $10.800 = $1.000.
